The Glenfiddich Distillery
is a Speyside single malt Scotch whisky distillery owned by William
Grant & Sons in Dufftown, Scotland. Glenfiddich means ‘Valley of the
deer’ in Gaelic, hence the presence of a deer symbol on Glenfiddich
bottles.
The
three bottled brands Glenfiddich Special Reserve 12yr, Glenfiddich
Solera Reserve 15yr and Glenfiddich Ancient Reserve 18yr do very well at
international Spirit ratings competitions.
In
terms of pairing each fine whiskey with its respective wing flavour, it
is absolutely critical to delve into the unique characteristics of each
bottle.
Glenfiddich
Special Reserve 12yr: “Fresh and fragrant with a touch of pear in the
nose, followed by a well-balanced flavor of rich fruit, subtle pine and a
hint of peatiness. Finish is long, lingering and rounded.”
Glenfiddich
Solera Reserve 15yr. : “Innovatively matured in three types of oak
cask: sherry, bourbon and new oak, before being married in our unique,
handcrafted Oregon pine Solera vat. ”
Glenfiddich
Ancient Reserve 18yr. : “Combines a touch of fruity sweetness from the
Spanish Oloroso wood and an oakiness from the traditional American
casks. After being married in wooden tuns for at least three months, its
rich, mellow flavours come together, creating an exceptionally smooth
and remarkably deep single malt Scotch whisky with notes of baked apple,
spice and robust oak.”
Our
recommendations: There is a rich fruit flavour that accompanies this
whiskey line. As such, any sauce that can lightly incorporate this
fruity sweetness would be highly desirable. A honey garlic wing sauce may be a
fine complement as well.
